I have virtual appliances in my environment from different vendors. These are mainly SUSE Linux appliances that vendors such as backup software vendors or of monitoring solutions have provided in .ovf format. Some of these do not come with VMware tools. When a vendor customizes a Linux OS to make an .ovf template but doesn't add VMware tools, are there situations where I should not attempt to install VMware tools? Is it normally safe to attempt to install the tools?
