Virtual Machine at BSOD and consuming 100% CPU

Hi,

I have a really simple question, and maybe I can answer this myself, however am still replicating the symptoms in my lab.

My question to you all (because I cannot find anything on the net about this) is, have you come across a virtual machine (in this instance Windows 7 running on vSphere 5.5 in a development environment) sitting at a BSOD, with 100% CPU usage?

Could this be related to the HAL (uniprocess vs multi-processor and CPU idle loop)?  I mean, if a Windows VM is sitting at a BSOD, what would be causing the high CPU usage seen at the host level?  It's technically not running at the OS level, therefore, wouldn't fall under this... or would it?

Any help or useful links to help troubleshoot this would be most appreciated, as this has been plaguing a particular customer for a while, and even if there is no "fix" that VMware provides, at least understanding some facts about this will be helpful!  TIA
