Windows 10 - 1903 - Missing CAlculator and Stickynotes after deploying golden image.

$

Hi, working on a golden image, and when i deploy this to my testenvironment, basic applications like Sticky Notes and Calculator are missing.

When my users, who not are admins, need these applications, they need to go to MS Store(Wich is disabled by GPO)...

In my Golden image, i'm able to start both of these without any questions.

If i turn off the GPO policy, i get a message like:"you need an app to open the ms-calculator app"

How can i ensure that Sticky notes and Calculator ARE installed on my golden image, and is it possible to locate the .EXE files somewhere?

Error message when attempting to run VM

Hello,

I have VMware Player 3.1.5, 32 bit installed to 64 bit Windows 8.1.

I have a backup of a VM of Windows 98 SE which had loaded successfully using the same version of VMware Player on a now broken machine (that had run Windows 7 SP1).

When I try to run that VM using the same version of VM Player now installed to a Windows 8.1 PC notebook, I get the following error message:

"Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings.

If you were able to power on this virtual machine on this host computer in the past, try rebooting the host computer. Rebooting may allow you to use slightly more host memory to run virtual machines."

The host has 126 GB free on the hard drive in question and 16 GB of RAM.

The guest VM is set to 512 MB of RAM, and a hard disk current size 1.7 GB, with system free 126.9 GB, and with a maximum size of 8 GB.

I have tried:

rebooting the computer.

setting compatibility mode to treat the VMPlayer as running on Windows 7.

setting a higher RAM for the VM.

disabling the antivirus (Avast),

tried an earlier version of the VM that has significantly less installed to it,

but all these attempts did not resolve the problem, same error message, and I have since put the changed settings back to before they were changed.

While I appreciate the VMWare Player I have installed is somewhat an old version, I would be grateful for help in being able to successfully run the VM.

Regards,

What product replaced VMware Server (open Source)

Hello. I'm looking for free software for virtualization on my Debian server. I've found VMware Server 2.0 but in real i can't get link for download and I do not have opportunity to send request for key. Maybe this is very old product? what is replaced it?

Need a tutorial to fix my problem with workstation 15/vmtools/directdraw (doesn't work!)

$

Greetings all!

I'm new to virtualization and to workstation player 15.  I've successfully installed the freeware player onto my win 10 host system,  created a virtual machine, installed xp, and installed whatever version of vmware tools that was bundled with the player. So far so good.

Now come the problems:  1) Although XP games install, there are DirectX problems:  specifically, the software is not finding directdraw;  2) VMware tools for windows did install (after the XP install finished) but there is no tab within the guest OS or on the host menu for workstation player 15  that allows me to check versions or to upgrade (the vmware tools tab within the guest OS remains greyed, despite various fixes I've found on the web).

Despite researching and reading for hours and hours I cannot find answers to the following questions:

1.  How do I find out what version of vm tools I have?

2.  If too old, how do I upgrade?

3.  Why is the install tools tab greyed out when I click on "Manage" within my guest XP dropdown menu?

4.  Most importantly, could someone explain in simple language what I must do to enable workst player 15 running xp as a guest OS in order to provide DirectX with what it needs for directdraw to work?

5.  This link  WS15 disables 3D acceleration would suggest that the version of Workstation itself might be at fault.  If needed, I can report that the graphics card on my Acer Aspire 7 is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050.  For this DirectX-related 3d accel problem, is it necessary to install Workstation 14 or earlier??

Please do not refer me to various VMware docs that appear relevant (e.g., "installing vmware tools," "upgrading tools," "upgrading tools manually," the various vmware tools release pages, etc.)  Once again, I know that some version of tools was installed.  The specific problem is with DirectX, directdraw, and 3d acceleration.

Many thanks for reading this and pondering my questions.  I will indeed appreciate any assistance!!

Trying to setup a multiapp kiosk for windows 10 but running into issues. Can anyone help?

I have configured a windows desktop profile in Airwatch and tried to deploy it to a windows 10 enterprise VM running windows 190318-1202. The profile will load to the device but the status is "install pending" - it wont deploy. I have tried to troubleshoot the issue by following this windows guide: Use MDM Bridge WMI Provider to create a Windows 10 kiosk (Windows 10) | Microsoft Docs.

I keep getting this error:

root\cimv2\mdm\dmmap

MDM_AssignedAccess

The property 'Configuration' cannot be found on this object. Verify that the property exists and can be set.

It appears windows is blocking the profile from loading but i cannot work out why. Does anyone have any advise on how to resolve this issue?

In addition i have tried to publish a windows 32bit app in airwach and get that to install. I am again seeing a similar issue where Airwatch reports command sent but the application does not deploy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't access VM's after reinstall Fusion 8.5.10 Pro

I took the hard drive from my early 2009 iMac running High Sierra and added it as an external disc to my newer late 2013 iMac running Catalina.

I installed Fusion 8.5 and updates.

I can see all the files and VM's in Finder but I cannot import any VM'S. When I click on the VM to open it I get an error "Could not open /dev/vmmon: no such file or directory" followed by "Failed to initialise monitor device".

The OS and Fusion are new clean installs.

Any help (urgently) appreciated.

Upgrade MS 2008r Server to 2019 on a VMWare Server

Hi Im new on this, never worked with VMWare so bare with me.

Since the guy that can do this is to occupied with other things (they where 4 now hes alone) and I'm more Onsite-Technician I want to do my best to help him with things.

Today we have 3 VMWare Servers and on them we have a lot of virtual servers (MS 2008 mostly).

What I want to do is is copy one of the 2008r servers and then upgrade that one and see what will go wrong so we don't do it on a "live" server.

I now that we first need to upgrade from 2008r to 2012 and then to 2019.

Or is it easiest to install a fresh MS 2019 server and then migrate, for example I talking about a domain server?

Best Regards

VMTool 10.2.5 is not installing in Guest Machine

We are having some 10 pairs of identical VMWare guest machines hoisted on VMWare ESXi version 6.0.0 u3. We are updating the patches of ESXi layer VMSA-2018-0026 and 0027.

This patches are compatible with VM Tools version 10.2.5 and hence VMTools needs to be updated to 10.2.5 as we are having lower version of VMTools installed on the machines.

The ESXi level patches are installed successfully, and not faced any issue. But while updating the VM tools, we are facing issue of and the installer is not able to install VMCI Virtual Machine Communication Interface successfully.Tried with solutions available in VM community but none worked for us.  Our Guest OS in Windows server 2008 R2.

Attach is the VM Installation log file from GUEST Machine OS %temp% dir. VM Tools installation is rolled back automatically.

Can some one help to resolve the issue?

Today morning, I have updated Windows 10 new patch around 640 MB. It takes around 2 hours to update this patch. After patch update when I tried to access Outlook mail it doesn’t open. I don’t know what the issue in the mail. I have tried many manual methods but no one works properly. I have searched this issue on this forum and found one thread related to Outlook:

https://communities.vmware.com/thread/586605

But still facing the same issue. After tons of searches, I have collected a few resources. Please refer to these resources and suggest which one is better.

Automatic removal of SVGA driver VMware Tools component before starting Windows Server 2012 R2 upgrade to Windows Server 2019

$

Hi, SVGA driver component of VMware tools is incompatible with Windows Server 2019 hence it has to be removed before upgrade of Windows Server 2012 R2 to Windows Server 2019 is started. Since I am doing automatic upgrade using System Center Configuration Manager, I am interested to know how to remove SVGA driver automatically without mounting VMware Tools on given Windows Server 2012 R2 VM (also manual removal from Control Panel is out of question too) if possible.

When SVGA driver removal is done manually from Control Panel, temporary msi is created in c:\Windows\Installer folder and installation is run as if VMware Tools are mounted but that does not help me much either. Also servers can have different VMware Tools versions so even if I would use msi of VMware Tools in System Center Configuration Manager several msi files would be needed to cover all versions out there (other team manages vSphere environment but looks like they do not care too much about having all VMs with latest VMware Tools version) and I would have to query system to retrieve VMware Tools version and call corresponding msi with switches to remove SVGA driver.

Windows VMs stop accepting RDP connections; Restart Guest OS results in "A general system error has occurred: Invalid fault"

$

We are seeing a seemingly-random problem cropping up throughout our environment with our Windows VMs. They will run fine for weeks or months at a time, but then - although they still seem to be performing their assigned business functions - they will stop accepting RDP connections. At the same time, our monitoring will tell us:

RPC Service status on server.domain.com Remote Procedure Call (RPC)(Unknown), Distributed Transaction Coordinator(Unknown)

Please check this server for a possible hung OS condition.

When I try to access these VMs via the remote console, I can apparently logon... but the server never shows me more than a black screen. Trying to Restart Guest OS results in "A general system error has occurred: Invalid fault". At that point, I can either power down the VM or reset it, and when it comes back - which they always have, so far - RDP connections work again and the RPC errors go away. When I logon via remote console, I see the Windows desktop I expect.

These servers will run fine again for a few weeks or months, but then this problem with reoccur.

No one here has the slightest idea of why this is happening. There is nothing we've been able to see in Event Viewer that seems to to relate to this. Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior? Can anyone suggest something to look for?

Hello Everyone,

I’ve converted a LenovoB50 laptop to a virtual machine using the Stand-alone Convertor. The VM boots up to the login screen with only the mouse working, keyboard failed.

Have gone through Host Registry menu, [ click Hkey_Local_Machine on Remote_Computer_Name on the Window menu, and then navigate to the following key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Double-click the UpperFilters:REG_MULTI_SZ: Lkbdflt2 kbdclass value, and then remove only the Lkbdflt2 entry].

Without success.

The virtual keyboard app in bottom left hand corner also failed.

Can someone please assist?

Workstation crashes as soon as I try to run VM on Kali Linux

$

Hey guys, super new to the scene here and trying to get my berrings. Finding out I may have been overconfident and installed Kali too early because I've had errors that I've had to work through on almost every installation (including linux itself), but have been working through each problem in good time with a quick web search. This is the first thing I've gotten truly stuck on, so forgive me for lacking some technical terms etc.

I downloaded Workstation (free) and also installed metasploit 2. Unzipped and tried to run with the vmx file as instructed, and as it said "connecting", all of a sudden it just said 'error' super fast and Workstation crashed. I tried multiple times, then re-installed metasploit. Also tried downloading an SSH shell but the guide to downloading an SSH led me to a non-working command. Tried to open a non metasploit virtualmachine as well, both crash immediately and dont even show me an error message now. As soon as I hit run it just crashed. Reinstalled Workstation, same issue occurring. Tried to run this: vmplayer /path/to/virtual machine

and got

failed to load external entity "/etc/vmware/hostd/proxy.xml"

vmplayer: Too many arguments; only one virtual machine can be specified at a time.

Try 'vmplayer --help' for more information.

How do I upload my logs?

Thanks in advance!
